Christians Can Restore Public Trust by Being Good Church Members and Good Citizens

The Korean National Association of Christian Pastors (KACP; Rev. Kim Gyeong-weon, executive director) opened its 17th National Training Conference on June 23, at Korea Baptist Theological University, located on Bugyuseong-daero in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon. The conference theme was “Seeking the Future of the Korean Church Following the 70th Anniversary of Liberation/Division and the 130th Anniversary of Mission.” 200 some clergy resolved to “renew our reality, which is stained with greed and egoism, and practice Korean church unity and social service.”

Kim Jae-hyeon, director of the Korea Institute for Advanced Theological Studies (speaker in photo) presented a paper on “Seeking the Future of the Korean Church Through Its History,” and Prof. Im Seong-bin of Presbyterian University and Theological Seminary spoke on “The Future of the Korean Church Seen from the Standpoint of the Public Theology.”

During the conference on this day, KACP held its regular general assembly, at which it was decided to extend the terms of Executive Director Kim Gyeong-weon, Standing General Secretary Lee Seong-gu and others. Executive Director Kim promised, “I will do my best to encourage cooperation among conservatives and progressives so that the Korean church may take a leadership role in this era.”
