Resentment and Envy 분노와 시기(욥기 5장 2절)

Today's Verse

Resentment kills a fool, and envy slays the simple. (Job 5:2)

분노가 미련한 자를 죽이고 시기가 어리석은 자를 멸하느니라 (욥 5:2)

분을 낼 때 종종 우리는 ‘내 감정에 충실하다’ 또는 ‘상대방은 분을 받아도 마땅하다’라는 생각으로 합니다. 상대방이 내가 분을 내는 것을 들을 만하다고 생각될 때는 화를 내게도 됩니다. 그런데 말씀에서는 분노의 어리석은 결과를 받게 되는 것은 분을 받는 이가 아닌 분을 내는 자임을 알 수 있습니다(Resentment kills a fool). 또한 시기, 질투(envy)는 어리석은 자(the simple, 다른 버전에서는 the silly)를 멸한다고 되어 있습니다. 분과 시기를 통해 해를 받는 것은 결국 나 자신입니다. 이를 통해 내 마음이 피폐해 지고 생활까지 영향을 받으며 부정적인 영향을 받게 되어 나를 죽이고 멸하게 되는 것입니다. 나는 이런 어리석은 자가 되지 않도록 분과 시기의 마음이 들 때 이를 미워하고 떠나는 태도를 취해야 하겠습니다.

Prayer

God of love, please make me not be a silly person whose resentment or envy kills himself/herself. I want to follow your rule and get the blessing. Help me remember Your word in my daily life. In Jesus' name, Amen.
