미국의 대표적 목회자 중 한 명인 데이비드 플랫(사진) 워싱턴 DC 맥린성경교회 목사는 14일(현지시간) 자신의 페이스북에 “이스라엘과 팔레스타인, 중동과 세계를 위해 주님의 자비를 구한다”는 내용의 기도문을 올렸다.
플랫 목사는 이스라엘이나 팔레스타인 한쪽의 지지나 기도 대신 양측이 겪는 고통과 슬픔에 대한 주님의 위로, 그리고 온 세계에서 벌어지고 있는 전쟁과 갈등, 고난의 현장에 주님의 샬롬과 평화의 복음이 임하도록 기도했다. 플랫 목사는 베스트셀러 ‘래디컬’의 저자로 미국 남침례회(IMB) 국제선교이사를 지냈다.

주의하지 않는다면 우리는 이스라엘에 대한 테러 공격과 이스라엘의 대응에 관한 뉴스 기사를 읽는 데 많은 시간을 보낼 수 있습니다. 그러나 가장 중요한 일, 즉 중동을 다스리시며 모든 것을 다스리시는 하나님께 기도하는 데는 거의 시간을 할애하지 못할 것입니다. 주님은 세상에서 일어나고 있는 일들에 영향을 미치는 방식으로 중보기도하도록 우리를 초대하셨습니다. 이것을 열방의 왕께 함께 애통하며 기도합시다.
“모든 나라의 하나님, 모든 민족의 희망이신 주님, 우리는 당신 앞에 마음을 굽혀 이스라엘을 향한 당신의 자비와 팔레스타인과 중동 전역에 당신의 자비를 간구합니다.
오 하나님, 우리는 이 세상의 악과 불의, 테러리즘과 전쟁, 고통과 죽음을 슬퍼합니다. 이스라엘과 팔레스타인에서 죽은 이들의 가족과 친구들이 주님 안에서만 찾을 수 있는 소망에 이끌릴 수 있도록 주님의 위로를 위해 기도합니다. 우리는 부상당하고 고통받는 모든 사람과 그들을 돌보기 위해 일하는 모든 사람을 위해 당신의 공급하심을 기도합니다.
오 하나님, 납치되어 인질로 잡혀 있는 이들을 구원하시고 이 끔찍한 날들에 그들과 함께하시는 주님의 임재를 알게 하여 주십시오. 그리고 집을 잃은 모든 사람을 위해 그들이 지금 겪고 있는 셀 수 없을 정도의 필요들을 공급해 주십시오.
당신은 모든 왕의 왕이시며 모든 주의 주님이시니, 우리나라의 지도자들을 포함해 중동과 전 세계 지도자들 위에 당신의 일반 은총과 지혜를 주실 것을 기도합니다. 악을 제지하고 선과 옳음, 결정과 행동이 가능케 하소서.
여호와 샬롬, 오직 당신만이 주실 수 있는 평화를 위해 기도합니다. 그리고 하나님 우리 아버지, 중동 전역에 있는 당신의 교회, 그리스도 안의 우리 형제자매들이 믿음 안에 굳게 서서 살게 하시며 주변의 상처받은 사람들에게 예수님의 복음을 나누기를 기도합니다. 우리는 평화의 복음이 전쟁 가운데 빛나고 전파되기를 기도합니다. 특별히 복음을 아는 소수의 사람, 그리고 들어본 적도 없는 지역에서 그 복음이 퍼지기를 원합니다.
예수님께서 우리에게 기도하라고 가르치신 것처럼, 우리는 당신의 이름이 거룩히 여김을 받고, 존중받고 누리고 높아지기를 간절히 구하며, 당신의 나라가 임하고 당신의 평화가 다스리고 통치하며, 하늘에서와같이 당신의 뜻이 땅에서도 이루어지기를 간구합니다.
오 하나님, 우리의 삶을 당신께 바칩니다. 특히 이스라엘과 팔레스타인뿐만 아니라 러시아와 우크라이나 북한 이란 예멘 아프가니스탄까지 고난과 악이 가득한 이 시기에 당신의 은혜와 영광이 모든 나라 가운데 확산되도록 당신께서 바라시는 대로 우리의 기도와 자원을 사용해 주옵소서.
오소서, 주 예수여, 속히 오시옵소서 당신의 말씀을 따라 예수님의 이름으로 기도합니다. 아멘.”

If we’re not careful, we can spend a lot of time reading news articles about the terrorist attack on Israel, and Israel’s response, and little time doing what matters most: praying to the God who is sovereign over the Middle East and who has invited us to intercede in a way that affects what is happening in the world.
Let’s lament and pray this together to the King of all nations.
God of all nations and hope of all peoples, we bow our hearts before You, and we plead for Your mercy over Israel, for Your mercy in Palestine, and for Your mercy throughout the Middle East.
O God, we grieve over evil and injustice, terrorism and war, suffering and death in this world.
We pray for Your comfort for family members and friends of those who have died in Israel and Palestine, that they might be drawn to the hope that is found in You alone. We pray for Your provision for all those who are injured and suffering, and for all those who are working to care for them.
O God, please deliver those who have been kidnapped and are being held hostage, and cause them to know Your presence with them during these horrifying days. And for all who are displaced from their homes, please provide for the countless needs they now have.
You are the King over all kings and Lord over all lords, and we pray for Your common grace and wisdom over leaders across the Middle East and around the world, including leaders of our own country, that You would restrain evil and enable good, right, just decisions and actions.
Jehovah Shalom, we pray for peace that only You can provide. And God our Father, we pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ, Your church across the Middle East, that they might live and stand firm in faith and share the good news of Jesus with hurting people all around them. We pray for the gospel of peace to shine and spread in the middle of war, particularly in a region where so few people know or have even heard it.
As Jesus taught us to pray, we ask for Your name to be hallowed, honored, revered, enjoyed, and exalted in all the earth, and for Your kingdom to come, Your peace to rule and reign, and Your will to be done as it is in heaven.
O God, we yield our lives to You. Please use our prayers and our resources however You desire for the spread of Your grace and glory among all the nations, particularly during these days of such suffering and evil not only in Israel and Palestine, but also in Russia and Ukraine, from North Korea to Iran, and from Yemen to Afghanistan.
Come, Lord Jesus, come quickly we pray in Your name according to Your Word, Amen.
