The burning of a 500-won (approx. 50 U.S. cents) yeontan, a 22-hole anthracite coal briquet, produces a maximum temperature of 550 degrees Celsius. On January 3, about 100 staff members and news reporters of Kukmin Daily, in cooperation with the Seoul Yeontan Bank, donated 2,000 yeontan to 15 marginalized households in Baeksa Village, Seoul, personally sharing their compassion while delivering the 550-degree heat. This was part of the campaign “Sharing Yeontan of Love with Energy-Poor Neighbors.”
